On October 1, the Burger Construction team, along with members from the Kidder Mathews, Jones Lang LaSalle, and Cushman & Wakefield teams, traveled to Tecate, Mexico on a home-building humanitarian mission. With members of the Burger team assigned to manage each of the three home sites, the teams not only successfully built three homes for families in need, but brought and donated much-needed supplies to the families. With additional funds raised, the JLL team was even able to bring toiletries and other fun items such as baseball mitts, footballs, school supplies, and some makeup for the members of their family.

“We’ve been working with the Baja Challenge group for over ten years now, and it’s always a fun and rewarding time,” Jack Burger, team leader, stated. “I can’t say enough good things about the comradery, hard work and fun we had this weekend. This annual event is one that our team is consistently excited for. You’re dirty, smelly, and tired at the end of the day, but seeing the gratitude from the families that we help is what keeps us coming back year after year.”

The Baja Challenge environment is a unique one in many ways. One that sticks out is the opportunity for the Burger team to work with our partners in an extraordinarily different capacity. This is not only a great way for the members of our team to get out and meet other teams they may have not worked with before, but it also establishes the foundation for great relationships in the future. As Chad Urie of JLL put it, “The Burger Team all had great attitudes working alongside all of us non-construction folks.  Our team found it fulfilling to complete a project of this significance in one day.  We will be back for years to come.”

We can’t wait to continue our great relationship with the Baja Challenge team in the upcoming years. Let us know if you or anyone from your team would be interested in joining us next October!
